2017 is the year dedicated to the Italian villages and to every historical, natural and gastronomic wealth these small town can contain.
Italian villages are our pride, as well as a point of interest for travelers all over the world: that’s why Airbnb has decided to launch Italian Villages project, sponsored by ANCI, the National Association of Italian Municipalities , and developed in collaboration with MiBACT.
The project, in its simplicity, is an example of enlightened entrepreneurship: all the virtuosity of art and history broadcast, with the rational identification of a market vacuum, just waiting to be filled. From last summer, Italy registered an increased interest for slow tourism: + 12.5% of visitors in iltalian villages and museums.
Italian villages plan envisages the valorization of more than 40 villages, spread throughout the country, through a range of different projects. An example? Twenty villages, one for each of the Italian regions, promoted internationally through a website.
Another project involves the recovery of four historic buildings through value-added projects created by the collaboration between Airbnb, the institutions and the local community. As in the case of the preliminay plan of Civita di Bagnoregio, Casa d'Artista, this project promotes the revival of the spaces in Lavenone, Civitacampomarano and Sambuca di Sicilia. The project will involve artists and architects working on territorial specificities, enhancing regional productions.
