Villages in Lombardy: visit them by bringing with you #ilPassaporto
Discover Monte Isola

Monte IsolaVisiting Lombardy means immersing yourself into a reality that amazes everyone with the variety of cultural and tourist attractions: naturalist jewels, city of art, gastronomic excellences, Unesco sites and also some of the Borghi più belli d’Italia (most beautiful villages of Italy): the region, among the richest in Italy in this sense, has even 20 of them. They go from being typically medieval, like Gradella (CR) and Cornello dei Tasso (BG), to Renaissance jewels like the charming Sabbioneta (MN), which is also a Unesco site.

Some of them overlook the great lakes of Lombardy, like Lovere on Lake Iseo, Tremezzo on Lake Como, Tremosine and Gardone Riviera on Lake Garda. One village in particular, Monte Isola, the "pearl of Lake Iseo", is situated right on a small island in the centre of the lake’s body of water. Also particular is Castellaro Lagusello (MN), whose small basin of water is in the shape of a heart. Instead, Soncino (CR), Grazie (MN), Pomponesco (MN), Gromo (BG), San Benedetto Po (MN) and Cassinetta di Lugagnano, located along the Naviglio Grande of Milan, are all standing out on a river’s banks.

In the Oltrepò Pavese, in the province of Pavia, there are Fortunago and Zavattarello, while not so far from Cremona, there is Castelponzone with its characteristic ancient arcades; or even Bienno, in the province of Brescia, with its Exhibition Market, and Morimondo, near Milan, famous for its Cistercian Abbey.Morimondo These are small secret jewels, in which history and natural landscape combine harmoniously. They embody the tradition and the spirit of the region, flaunting their artisanal and wine-and-food specialties.
